Texas Toyota Recall

What You Need To Know About The Toyota Recall

Toyota SignIn September 2009, Toyota Motor Sales USA issued a recall of almost four million vehicles, citing concerns that the vehicles could experience unexpected acceleration as a result of problems with the driver side floor mat. At that time, the company joined with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to urge owners of all Toyota and Lexus models affected to immediately remove the driver side floor mat.

In January, 2010, the company notified owners of another 2.3 million cars and trucks that their vehicles needed to be recalled because of defects in the gas pedal mechanism, which they allege could cause the accelerator to stick or become unresponsive. Toyota is also considering a recall on its popular 3rd generation Prius hybrid vehicles, responding to complaints that they do not work properly and can be subject to sudden malfunction when the car hits a bump in the road.

As a result of these concerns, Toyota has suspended the manufacture and sale of many of its most popular models in the United States.

Evidence is mounting that supports a conclusion that the problems with the various Toyota models is far more serious than the company will admit. Toyota Recall Safety Concerns

According to many reliable sources, there are significant concerns about whether or not Toyota has been completely truthful about the problems with its vehicles. A scientific study conducted by Quality Control Systems (QCS) Corporation, in Crownsville, Maryland, found that the problems with sudden acceleration were tied to Toyota’s electronic throttle control system. QCS rejected Toyota’s claims that the sudden acceleration was caused by floor mats or by wear and tear to the vehicle’s gas pedal mechanism. To read the full report prepared by QCS, click here.

Another Maryland-based company, Safety Research and Strategies (SRR), Inc., echoed the concerns of QCS, contending that there was no evidence to show that Toyota or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration had identified the cause of what has been termed Toyota Sudden Unintended Acceleration (Toyota SUA). The SRR report, prepared for consumers as well as injury victims and surviving family members, also points to the electronic throttle control assembly as the source of the problem.

The problems with sudden unintended acceleration are extremely serious, with reports that some vehicles have increased to speeds in excess of 120 mph and that braking has generally been ineffective. The problem has been cited as the cause for many serious injuries, including numerous deaths.

In response to concerns that Toyota is trying to conceal the true nature of the problem, U.S. Representative Henry Waxman, D-Calif., has notified both Toyota Motor North America and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that they have until Feb. 12, 2010 to supply records dating back to 2000 to a Congressional committee investigating the problem.
